Bystolic helps to reduce heart rate, reduces arterial pressure at rest and during exercising regardless the initial level of arterial pressure. With prolonged therapy, the hypotensive effect of Bistolic does not change.

Indications

Bystolic is used to treat patients with an essential form of hypertension. Bystolic can be prescribed in a complex therapy of elderly patients with stable chronic heart failure of moderate severity.

Directions

Bystolic is taken orally. Bystolic pills can be taken regarless of food intake regime. It is recommended to take the drug at the same time of a day. As a rule, the daily dose of Bystolic is prescribed for single take. The duration of therapy as well as the dosage of Bystolic is determined by doctor. Adults with an essential form of arterial hypertension are usually recommended to take 5mg of Bystolic a day. If in four weeks after the beginning of therapy with Bystolic, the arterial pressure control is insufficient, additional therapy is prescribed including the recommended combination of Bystolic in a standard daily dose with hydrochlorothiazide in a daily dose of 12.5-25mg. If there’s a need of cancelling Bystolic treatment, the dose is recommended to be reduced gradually as the abrupt cancellation can lead to a temporary increase in the symptoms of heart failure.

Contraindications

Bystolic is not used for the treatment in patients with intolerance to the active ingredient of the drug, glucose-galactose absorption disorder, lactase deficiency, and galactoseemia; hepatic dysfunction, cardiogenic shock, sinus node weakness syndrome, second- and third-degree atrioventricular blockade without an artificial sinoatrial node, compensated heart failure.

Bystolic is not used to treat patients with bronchial asthma and with a tendency of bronchospasm development, untreated pheochromocytoma, metabolic acidosis, bradycardia, arterial hypotension, as well as severe peripheral blood flow disorders, congestive heart failure, peripheral circulatory disorders, atrioventricular blockade of the first degree, and Prinzmetal’s angina

Side effects

As a rule, Bystolic is well tolerated by patients. However, Bystolic may cause the possibility of developing such undesirable effects as: depressive conditions, nightmares, headache, paresthesia, dizziness, asthenia, syncope, decreased visual acuity. In addition, in isolated cases, there was a development of hallucinations, psychosis and loss of consciousness, bradycardia, heart failure, atrioventricular conduction disorders, excessive blood pressure lowering, exacerbation of intermittent claudication, dyspepsia, vomiting, nausea, stool disorders, flatulence, bronchospasm, Quincke's edema, Erythema, urticaria, exacerbation of psoriasis, increased fatigue, impotence, swelling, dry eye, mucous cyanosis of the extremities.

For patients who use contact lenses, in case of eye mucosa dryness developing, it is recommended to use artificial tears or wear glasses during Bystolic therapy.
