Mastarix (Drostanolone propionate), also known as Masteril ™ or Masteron ™, is an anabolic steroid, a drug that mimics the effects of natural testosterone on the body. Drostanolone propionate has been used as hormone therapy alongside other breast cancer treatments, but the unpleasant side effects prevent it from being widely used.
Action mechanism
Drostanolone is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid and is approximately 5 times more potent than natural methyltestosterone. Like testosterone and other androgenic hormones, this drug binds to the androgen receptor. This causes downstream genetic and transcriptional changes.
This ultimately results in nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus retention, increases protein anabolism and decreases amino acid catabolism. The antitumor activity of drostanolone appears to be related to competitive reduction or inhibition of prolactin receptors or estrogen receptors.
