Renagel

Renagel is used for reducing the amount of phosphorus in the blood in patients with chronic kidney disease who are on dialysis. Renagel is a phosphate binder. It binds with phosphate in the digestive tract, which decreases the amount of phosphate absorbed into the body.

How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. Take with meals. Do not crush, chew or break open your dose. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking except on your doctor's advice. Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed. Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

Side effects

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most common side effects persist or become bothersome: Constipation; diarrhea; gas; indigestion; nausea; stomach pain; vomiting. Seek medical attention right away if any of these severe side effects occur: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); severe or persistent constipation or stomach pain.
