Drug Uses
Ceftin is an antibacterial agent used to treat or prevent mild to moderately severe bacterial infections. Ceftin advantage over many other antibiotics is that this drug can be used to treat infectious diseases in infants aged three months and older.
Ceftin is effective in treating infections of different etiology and localization, including, but not limited to:
- early stages of Lyme disease;
- sexually transmitted infections (STI) including gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis;
- uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTI), including cystitis, pyelonephritis;
- uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections (SSSI), including furunculosis, non-bullous and bullous impetigo, pyoderma;
- primary and secondary infections of upper respiratory tract (URTI), including mild, moderate or acute: pneumonia, bronchitis, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, bacterial maxillary sinusitis, streptococcal tonsillitis, streptococcal pharyngitis, otitis media.
The standard single doses of Ceftin for adults are 250mg or 500mg. To treat gonorrhea and some other infectious diseases, the maximum single dose of Ceftin 1000mg can be prescribed. The total daily doses of Ceftin for adults range from 500 mg to 1000 mg.

Missed Dose
If you do not take Ceftin tablets at scheduled time, take the missed dose of your antibiotic as soon as you remember. However, do not take a double dose of this cephalosporin antibacterial drug to make up the missed dose.

More Information
For successful treatment of bacterial infection, the recommended duration of using Ceftin tablets should be observed. The standard duration of antibiotic therapy for most diseases mentioned in indications to Ceftin use is 10 days.

Storage
Ceftin tablets should be stored at temperature of up to 30°C, in the original packaging or plastic container tightly closed.

Warnings
In patients with a history of drug allergy / hypersensitivity, Ceftin may cause severe anaphylactic reactions. These patients should take Ceftin with caution. If any signs or symptoms of allergic reaction occur, stop using Ceftin and any other prescription or OTC drugs.

Ceftin Side Effects
During antibiotic therapy, the patients using Ceftin pills are at risk of changes in hematological parameters, vaginitis, candidiasis, dizziness, headache or gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, diarrhea, flatulence, abdominal pain and vomiting).
In rare cases, after using Ceftin antibiotic, patients may experience rash, pruritus, urticaria, erythema, dry mouth, ulcers, hepatitis, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia and jaundice. All Ceftin undesirable effects are mild and transient. The likelihood of these effects depends on the dose size and duration of Ceftin use.
Serious undesirable effects that require early termination of antibiotic treatment are very rare. The research results have demonstrated that less than 3% of patients require Ceftin withdrawal due to undesirable effects.
