Drug Uses
Propecia is a medicine for treatment of male-pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). Propecia prevents hair loss by suppressing activity of important enzyme 5α-reductase, involved in regulation of the hair follicle activity.
Due to this effect, Propecia not only prevents hair loss, but also stimulates the growth of new hair. Propecia tablets can be administered to young men over 18 years and adults up to 41 years.
The recommended dose of Propecia is 1 mg per day (one tablet of Propecia). Increasing in a daily dose of Propecia does not improve hair growth. Therefore, the patients with male-pattern baldness are not recommended to double the daily dose of this medicine.
To stop hair loss, regular 3 to 6 months of administration of Propecia tablets is required. The duration of the hair growth stimulant application is adjusted individually for each man. After 5 years of regular administration of Propecia tablets, the efficacy is reduced.
Missed dose
If you’ve missed intake of Propecia at its usual time, do not take it at all. Return to the normal dosing chart at the proper time for the next dose of Propecia.
More Information
For successful treatment of androgenetic alopecia, Propecia dosage regimen should be strictly complied. If Propecia is used irregularly, the effectiveness of alopecia treatment is reduced, and the hair loss process will resume.
Storage
Propecia should be stored at room temperature not exceeding 30°C in a tightly closed container to protect from excessive moisture.

As postmarketing studies have demonstrated, long-term application of Propecia may cause development of breast cancer. In case of first changes in breast tissue (nipple discharge, lump, gynaecomastia), the man is recommended to stop taking Propecia and to undergo a breast exam. Propecia tablets contain lactose, so men suffering from lactose intolerance (milk allergy) or glucose-galactose malabsorption are not recommended to use this hair growth stimulant.
