Drug Uses

Accutane is an anti-acne agent that has anti-inflammatory effect on the outer, middle and inner skin layers. This drug is used to treat severe forms of acne, including recalcitrant, inflammatory and cystic (nodular or conglobate).

Accutane should be used, when the size of the inflammatory lesions is equal to or greater than 5 mm. The first, and mostly, the only treatment of severe acne with Accutane:

• Suppresses, but does not stop the functioning of sebaceous glands;
• Reduces the quantity and improves the chemical composition of excreted skin fat;
• Totally or almost completely eliminates the signs of hemorrhagic or suppurative skin lesions.

The average recommended duration of treatment with Accutane pills is 4.4 months. Oral doses administration (usually up to 1 mg/kg per day) should be evenly distributed throughout the day and the entire treatment course of skin diseases. The drug must be taken about every 12 hours.

Missed Dose

If the patient misses the pill intake, he or she may take the missed pill, if there are 6 hours or more until next dose. If more than 6 hours passed after the scheduled intake, it should be skipped, and the patient should proceed with the recommended Accutane schedule.

More Information

Selection of the optimal dosage and the intake of the anti-acne agent Accutane at the same time can reduce treatment duration to 14-15 weeks. If prolonged remission was not achieved, the patients are prescribed with an additional treatment with the same Accutane doses (2 months after the treatment completion).

Storage

Accutane capsules should be kept in their original package, protected from excessive light, heat and moisture at room temperature of up to 30°C. Keep out of the reach of children.
