Petmedin pimobendan tablets from Veko Care is usually prescribed in the management of congestive heart failure in dogs originating from atrioventricular valvular insufficiency or dilated cardiomyopathy. An ideal generic pimobendan alternative to Boehringer Vetmedin or Savavet Safeheart. Pimobendan provides tremendous benefit of both canine congestive heart failure(CHF), pre-clinical dilated cardiomyopathy and preclinical degenerative valve disease. The pimobendan in petmedin reduces congestion in the blood vessels, thus reducing the overall load on the heart. Pimobendan and its active metabolite has numerous beneficial effects like Inotropy – Troponin C sensitization, vasodilation – Smooth muscle ATP – sensitive K*-channel activation and cardioprotection – Mitochondrial ATP Sensitive K*-channel activation.

Its positive inotropic effect through calcium sensitization of the cardiac troponin C molecule and phosphodiesterase III inhibition imparts increased inotropy leading to improved cardiac output with greater potency. The balanced vasodilator effect provides Peripheral Vasodilation by inhibiting the function of PDE3. This results in decreased resistance to blood flow through systemic arterioles, which decreases afterload on the cardiac system.

Dosage:

Use as per advice of prescribing veterinarian – do not self-medicate.

Usual dosage is 0.3 to 0.5 mg/kg bodyweight daily. Dosage should be divided into 2 halves in 24 hours.

Approx total daily dosage is 1.25mg for 2.5kg dog, 2.5mg for 5kg dog, 5mg for 10kg dog, 10mg for 20kg dog, 20mg for 40kg dog.

Example dosage:

For up to 5kg dog or puppy, one can give one 1.25mg tab twice a day or 1/2 2.5mg tab twice a day.

For a 10kg dog, one can give one 2.5mg tab twice a day or 1/2 5mg tab twice a day

For a 20kg dog whose daily need is 10mg pimobendan – one can give one 5mg tab twice a day or 1/2 10mg tab twice a day.

For a 40kg large breed adult dog, one can give one 10mg tab twice a day.

Not to be given to cats.
